“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” – Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)
Editor’s note: On occassion, WholeDonkey.org will run the testimonies of our readers and contributors. Today’s come from Dan Wobschall, who writes at Every Man’s Hope and is a leader in reaching out to men struggling with issues of pornography and purity. Then 2001 comes along and our oldest daughter is diagnosed with anorexia and is deathly ill. Financial strain begins for us, as both my wife and I have to give up work hours to care for our daughter. But 2002 was not much better. An audit of our accountant by the IRS led to a mess. After all was said and done, every penny of savings – and then some – was gone. Even honest mistakes can be painful.
In 2003, a pornography addiction that had begun for me at age 12, imploded on our family. I had brought it into my married life and eventually my wife caught me in lies and an online affair. Our marriage was in serious trouble. I’d never felt so much shame in my life. We sought pastoral counseling and began to slowly recover.
But I was still seeking porn.
My wife, because of her faith in Christ, was hanging tough. Our kids were pretty sheltered from the trouble. But for me, nothing was further from the truth. I’d sunk into a deep depression. I was on anti-depressants and thoughts of seriously harming myself were a daily occurrence.
In late 2003 I met some new friends. They introduced me to Jesus Christ in a way I’d never heard before. In Him, there was a personal relationship I’d not understood could exist. On March 30th, 2004, I met Jesus in a very personal way and the next morning I surrendered all my pain, guilt and shame to Him.
I cried tears of freedom, healing and release of shame!
In the years since, God has brought our marriage to a place I’d only dreamed of. Our oldest daughter is healed and and is winning. My family is whole, healed and loving, in and by the blood of Christ.
God has called me to share this story. His story of healing and redemption of my family that is only possible in His redeeming grace and power. There is hope for restoration and healing. That hope is found in the person and name of Jesus Christ!
