I was sitting in my church community group and thinking about connection. How I am able to gather eye-to-eye with other men, talk about life, learn with and lean on each other.
Well how does that look on this blog? Sure, we have blog comments, social media and email to reach out, but so much of connection comes out of conversation. So I was inspired to throw one more wrinkle into our content schedule and create a weekly time for chat, conversation and connection.
My inspiration is twofold. First, as a volunteer at People’s Church in Oklahoma City, my volunteer duty on Sundays is to oversee the livestream of our Sunday experiences and chat with people from around the country and the world who visit us to watch. It is one of the great joys of my life. I have been able to witness faith in action, as people come to God who haven’t known Him before.
Second, when I was working in the newspaper business, one of our breakthroughs in connecting with our audience was through live chats, especially during big events and severe weather. Through those live chat we were once able to tell a soldier stationed halfway around the world in Iraq that his wife and kids were safe when a wildfire swept through their town. It was compelling and important stuff. I talked about in a conference in 2009.
That brings us to today. Or, more appropriately, to tomorrow.
WholeDonkey.org will launch weekly chats at 9 a.m. (Central time) Fridays so the men in our audience can talk about that week’s posts, share life, ask and answer questions and get real.
Consider it our chance to be a Friday Morning Quarterback – for our own lives.
Please bookmark our new Chats page and stick a reminder on your calendar.
